Increasing efficiency of container management through streamlining operations

Client: Logistics Company
Location: Uganda

Challenge

A Logistics Company faced inefficiencies at other Inland Container Depots (ICDs )as a result of long queues due to lack of proper systems, along with lengthy processes, which resulted in time wasted in entry and exit of containers. Other challenges faced included container damage (due to inexperienced machine operators, poor yard standards (due to containers stored on unpaved yards), lack of secured truck parking, altered container deposit forms and reports, and lack of adequate reporting.

Solution

  • Adequate material handling equipment on site

  • Experienced and well-trained machine operators

  • Joint planning with pre-arrival information shared with the team

  • Well paved yard thus no container damages

  • Reliable security protocols and measures securing parked trucks

  • Use of supply chain tower and system integration to enable real-time reporting and data analytics, as well as inventory and fleet management through SAP – MIRP

Results

  • Reduced TAT around the site due to proper joint planning

  • Joint inspection of container drop off and pick up ensuring no manipulation of container deposits or issue forms

  • Professional and quality of service offering

  • Timely system generated reports and status

  • All services under one roof – integrated ICD services

  • Efficiency in container shifting

  • Reduction in operational costs as inefficiencies reduced within the supply chain
