UHD in Action:
High Value Commodities Management
Ensuring supply chain integrity for high value goods throughout Uganda
Client: Integrated Logistics Company
Location: Uganda
Challenge
An Integrated logistics company struggled to secure adequate space for the storage of high value goods in an Inland Container Depot (ICD) and with the management of overheads as lack of space can lead to goods being released to free warehouses. They also faced a limited integration of service (e.g., local shunting), commodity integrity challenges and were in need of Integrated reporting, and better end-to-end data visibility.
Solution
Utilize Transtar’s dedicated warehouse for high value commodities storage
Integrity of commodities ensued with weights taken upon arrival and exit of cargo through the onsite weighbridge
Reliable security protocols and measures to avert commodity loss or manipulation
Use of supply chain tower and system integration to enable real-time reporting and data analytics, as well as inventory and fleet management through SAP – MIRP
Quality assurance and management
Results
Supply chain integrity achieved from source to client
Compliance with government and international standards on the handling of lubricants and high value related products
Expandable Customs bonded storage with goods released only when needed thus managing overheads
Joint planning with pre-arrival information shared with the team
Risk management – reduction of risks e.g. pilferage, damages
Professional and quality of service offering
OTIF as a KPI met
Responsiveness with improved TAT
Timely system generated reports and status
Integrated ICD services including shunting
Efficiency in release of cargo from the ICD
