on Behalf of the US Government
Building warehouse and distribution capacity for critical HIV and TB commodities
KEY RESULTS
More than $50 million in products were warehoused and distributed for 8 years across 65 districts in Uganda
Significant reduction in stock-outs and commodity loss, 100% inventory accuracy and very limited wastage
UHD supply chain control tower delivered end-to-end data visibility for all stakeholders and enabled online ordering and robust commodity forecasting, tracking and tracing.
Challenge
Uganda’s Private-Not-for-Profit sector serves over 40% of people living with HIV/AIDS in Uganda. The sector struggled with limited capacity to warehouse and distribute ARVs and laboratory/diagnostics to consistently supply 300,000 HIV/AIDS and TB patients countrywide. This included limited cold chain capacity and logistics data visibility to inform decisions.
Solution
Our in-house SAP-ERP system with add-ons like barcode scanning, electronic proof-of-delivery and FMS tracking was put in place alongside an expanded cold chain infrastructure and a new pharma-grade warehouse. ISO 9001 and 27001 certifications were also attained.
Results
More than $350 million in products were warehoused and distributed for 8 years across 65 districts in Uganda, with a significant reduction in stock-outs and commodity loss, very limited wastage and 100% inventory accuracy. The UHD supply chain control tower delivered end-to-end data visibility for all stakeholders and enabled online ordering and robust commodity forecasting, tracking and tracing.
