Challenge

A pharmaceutical company sought a national distributor and sole importer to Uganda. It faced high cross-border logistics and overhead costs and frequent stock damage resulting in high prices to the final customers. The company also struggled with inventory, pharmacovigilance and debt collection challenges and high administrative costs resulting from managing multiple importers and distributors. Market penetration was further limited by a sole focus on urban centers.

Solution

UHD aligned international freight forwarding organizations and distribution structures and utilized UHD warehouses and distribution fleet to minimize costs. Local staff were outsourced, a vaccine cold-chain infrastructure was set up and market penetration was enhanced through strategic partnerships with healthcare institutions and providers.

Results

Uganda has since become a profit center for the company with a 22% reduction in overhead costs, 12% reduction in shelf prices, 99.7% on-time, in-full order fulfillment, and 9% growth development.
